The National Historic Landmark, Kit Carson House, is a prime example of vernacular New Mexico adobe architecture that gives us a better understanding of how people lived in the 19th century.
New Mexico is the ancestral home of myriad Native peoples, and part of the last geographical region formally incorporated into the continental United States. As such, there is not one history of the region — much less one modern culture.
