Cornerstones Community Partnerships Brings Ninth-Generation New Mexican to Discuss New Mexico in 1776 During Free Public Presentation
TAOS, NEW MEXICO — TAOS, NEW MEXICO — The Carson House & Museum invites the public to continue its Conversations at The Carson House & Museum series with an engaging presentation by historian, author, and Taos County Commissioner F.R. Bob Romero.
On Saturday, August 22, at 5:00 p.m., Romero will present "New Mexico in 1776," offering a fascinating look at life in New Mexico during one of the most significant years in American history. While the events of 1776 are often associated with the birth of the United States, New Mexico was already home to vibrant Indigenous communities, Spanish settlements, and centuries of cultural exchange that shaped the region's unique identity.
A ninth-generation New Mexican, Romero has spent decades researching and sharing the history of Northern New Mexico. He is the author of History of Taos and Roots of Enchantment, has served as President of the Taos County Historical Society, and formerly taught History and Government as an Adjunct Professor at UNM–Taos. He is currently serving his second term as Taos County Commissioner and is widely respected throughout the community for his dedication to preserving the region's rich cultural heritage.
"History is best understood through the stories of the people who lived it," said Martin Jagers, President of The Carson House & Museum. "Bob Romero brings New Mexico's past to life in a way that is engaging, insightful, and deeply connected to the communities that continue to shape our state today."
Conversations at The Carson House & Museum is a series of public programs presented throughout August, September, and October, inviting visitors to explore the history, traditions, craftsmanship, and remarkable individuals who have shaped Taos and the American West. Through lectures, demonstrations, and special events, the series provides opportunities to connect with the region's rich cultural and historical legacy in the setting where so much of that history unfolded.
